At St Johns Vein Center, we are committed to improving the lives of our patients through the cosmetic and medical treatment of varicose veins and spider veins. Through the improvement of the appearance of these veins, our patients often experience improvements in their self esteem and attitude by feeling more confident about their legs.
When our clients have a renewed energy and outlook, they also seek to improve other areas of their lives including their personal appearance and skin care. We are pleased to offer cosmetic skin care services by a trained aesthetician. Recently, we asked our aesthetician to share with us her personal skin care routine for an expert point of view.
Q: What is your daily skincare regime?
A: I wash my face twice a day with either a gentle cleanser or exfoliating cleanser applied directly to my Clarisonic facial brush. No matter how tired I am, I never go to sleep with makeup on my face.
In the morning, I use an eye crème, Vitamin C serum, and a tinted light moisturizer with sunblock.
In the evening, I use an eye crème, a night-time moisturizer and two to three times a week, I use retinol 1%.
Q: What other treatments do you use?
A: I try to get a chemical peel every 4-6 weeks to keep my skin from appearing dull. A chemical peel helps to tighten pore size and reduce discoloration from sun damage.
Q: What injectables do you use?
A: I have been using Botox for over 10 years. It is the first injectable I tried. The results were amazing and took years off my face.
The next injectable I tried was Juvederm. It is hyaluronic acid dermal filler. It is a great volumizer for people like me with naturally “skinny” lips. I have since learned that as women age, they lose the volume in their lips. When I hit 50, my naturally thin lips began looking like “lizard lips”- virtually non-existent.
Many people fear having filler put in their lips because they have seen some of the bad results: duck lips, sausage lips and fish lips. A skilled injector can give you a very natural lip that is perfect for your shaped face.
Two years ago, a new hyaluronic acid dermal filler was introduced. It is called Voluma, a long-term volumizer for the areas of the face that cause sagging, jowliness and deep nasal labial folds. It has been called an instant face-lift, as it takes 10-15 years off ones face in less than an hour. Voluma has become one of my favorite tools in my “tool box” for aesthetic needs.
